Raquel Maulwurf is also nominated for the PULSE Prize, the jury awarded grant given to an artist of distinction featured in a solo exhibition at the fair. The prize will be awarded at the fair on the evening of 9 May 2014.
Since 2005, PULSE Contemporary Art Fair has nurtured galleries and created an international community for them to grow within the contemporary art market.
PULSE combines thoughtfully curated exhibitions with an evolving series of programming, which reflects the fair’s commitment to making the visitor experience a dynamic one.
Under the leadership of Helen Toomer, newly appointed director, PULSE New York 2014 will present a revitalized platform for the discovery of contemporary art and will continue to demonstrate the fair’s commitment to the exchange of ideas from pioneering and seasoned artists.
Raquel Maulwurf's drawings spring from a fascination with the urge of humans to destroy themselves, each other and their surroundings. Her recent large-scale charcoal drawings on museum board, often scratched open, literally materialise destruction in both subject and method. Her work is widely exhibited/collected: Museo del Sannio Rocca dei Rettori Benevento Italy, Stedelijk Museum Schiedam, Gemeentemuseum The Hague, CODA Museum Apeldoorn, Museum van Bommel van Dam Venlo.
Raquel Maulwurf (b. 1975 in Spain) studied at the HKA Art Academy Arnhem in the Netherlands. In 2005 she became artist-in-residence Sao Paulo in Brazil, she participated in The Drawing Center's Viewing Program in NYC in 2007 and in 2011 she became artist-in-residence at ISCP International Studio & Curatorial Program in NYC. Maulwurf lives and works in Amsterdam.
