Rural Route Film Festival features When Elephants Dance, the Grass Gets Beaten

The documentary short When Elephants Dance, the Grass Gets Beaten (25″) by Dutch film maker Jan van den Berg will anchor the closing night screening of the Rural Route Film Festival, atop the Brooklyn Grange rooftop farm. The short directed by Jan van den Berg is an insightful documentary on a rural Cambodian wedding and agri-politics.

This years marks the 10th annual edition of the festival, “Sort of like a staycation, it transports you places outside the bustle of the city.” according to Mindy Bond of Flavorpill.

Besides films, the RRFF features live music in beautiful environments and special guest chefs as well as  food & drink to tantalize your taste buds during the festival.
Rural Route will feature Q&As and Director/Talent appearances throughout the festival.

Coming from a village agricultural background, Moon and Bun San don’t have the money for a traditional wedding, but friends and family help them put it together.  During the course of the wedding and preparations, we get a picture of the dramatic situation of many small Cambodia family farms.
Every day large foreign companies are buying more of the agriculture land that had been given to them by the government, while promised job opportunities don’t happen and the farmers find themselves without land or income.  
Director Jan Van den Berg is based in Utrecht, Holland, but his documentaries have artistically explored important human rights issues and unique cultures around the world.
