The Museum of Modern Art presents Documentary Fortnight 2015: MoMA’s International Festival of Nonfiction Film and Media, the 14th annual showcase of recent documentary film that examines the relationship between contemporary art and nonfiction practices and reflects on new areas of documentary filmmaking, from February 13 through 27, 2015. This year’s festival includes an international selection of 21 feature films and seven short films, a lecture performance, an archival film program, and a flat-screen installation. Many of the directors will be present at the screenings and will participate in discussions following the films. Documentary Fortnight 2015 is organized by Sally Berger and is presented in collaboration with Cinema Tropical, Milestone Films, and True/False Film Festival.
In 2013 the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra celebrated their 125th anniversary with a world tour. 50 concerts throughout six continents captured in a documentary by Dutch filmmaker Heddy Honigmann. Honigmann joined the Orchestra in Buenos Aires, Soweto and St. Petersburg to show how the musicians connect with audiences from all around the world. Through their passion and love for music the Orchestra brings concertgoers and musicians together. In her documentary, Honigmann combines conversations with individual musicians about certain instruments and musical pieces with full orchestral performances. Furthermore she captures interactions between the musicians and concertgoers from different cultural backgrounds as well as the musicians’ lives on the road. Around the World in 50 Concerts got Honigmann her third Kristallen Film Award. Over 10.000 visitors saw the documentary in Dutch cinemas. Honigmann is known for her superb and intimate documentary portraits such as in her previous films Forever (2006) and El Olvido (2008).
