Since 1987, Tjalf Sparnaay has been working on an imposing oeuvre of never before painted works. His Megarealism is part of the contemporary and international art movement known as Hyperrealism. Sparnaay brings into view seemingly trivial objects, such as Barbies, hamburgers, and eggs, by making them almost overwhelmingly large. In doing so, Sparnaay allows himself to explore every element of the object in extreme detail and in this way fully understand its core. Sparnaay says about his own work: “My paintings are meant to allow the viewer to experience reality anew, to rediscover the essence of an object that has become so ordinary.”
In September of 2000, Frank Bernarducci and Louis K. Meisel opened Bernarducci Meisel Gallery at 37 West 57 Street at 5th Avenue in New York, a long established crossroads of the art world. The focus is the presentation of the finest contemporary realist art including established and emerging artists of the genre. Since the Gallery's inception, its artists have exhibited both nationally and internationally and their work has been included in important museum surveys and featured in solo museum exhibitions.
