Dutch poet, writer and nicknamed 'night mayor of Rotterdam' Jules Deelder, will perform in New York.
In these events Jules will perform his poets and stories, in an authentic setting, which only Jules Deelder can create. His performance at The Netherland Club will be followed by his side show 'Deelder Draait Door', in which he spins his jazz records.
Julius Anton Deelder is a Dutch writer and undoubtedly one of the Netherlands’ best-known poets. His poems cover topics such as life in the city of Rotterdam, drug use, and jazz. He is well known in the Netherlands for his live performances and appearances in Dutch popular media and owes much of his fame to public appearances, in which he combines a dandyish pose with a curious mixture of popular city humor and irony, dished up in an uncut Rotterdam accent. He collaborated with musicians and bands such as Herman Brood, Benjamin Herman and Bas van Lier to record and perform his poetry. His prominent role in the cultural life of Rotterdam earned him the nickname "night mayor of Rotterdam".
The Netherland Club of New York is a private club that offers social and business events mixed with Dutch cultural tradition for its members and their guests. Since 1903 the club has been offering a lively meeting point for mainly Dutch people living in and around New York: a touch of Old Amsterdam in the heart of New Amsterdam. We share a historic building with crystal chandeliers, high ceilings with art deco touches. The clubhouse is conveniently located in the heart of Manhattan, just across from Rockefeller Center and off Fifth Avenue. Members of the club are welcome to enjoy the comfort of the Lounge, the Library, bar and restaurant.
Their mission is to encourage cooperation among, and advancement of artists and cultural workers; to develop and produce works by emerging poets and performers; and to promote the exploration, improvement, and advancement of the arts as a changemaking force in society.
