From September 29 until October 2, Frederieke Taylor Gallery will present ceramic jewelry and objects by Dutch artist Pauline Wiertz at Texas ContemporaryHouston’s leading contemporary and modern art fair. Frederieke Taylor Gallery has a Dutch founder and is based in New York. Among other artists, they will present ceramic jewelry and objects by Pauline Wiertz, a ceramic artist and jewelry based in Amsterdam. Pauline Wiertz was originally trained at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in the 1970s. Wiertz started making jewelry in 2000 and began by creating necklaces using big porcelain beads decorated with her own ceramic transfers. These necklaces were influenced by ethnic jewelry from Tibet and India. For her work Wiertz collects objects, resembling natural forms, while shopping at the market for dinner. These forms are then cast in plaster moulds. Wiertz’s knowledge of glazes enables her to add vivid colors and textures to her pieces. One of the necklaces from the collection, 'Feeding the Birds' has been worn by Queen Maxima of the Netherlands.
