From November 10 – 14, 2016, Priveekollektie will be exhibiting work by two Dutch artists Reinier Bosch & Catharina van de Ven at the Salon Art + Design. The design fair will take place in the Park Avenue Armory New York.
The Salon Art + Design welcomes the world's finest galleries exhibiting historical, modern and contemporary furniture, groundbreaking decorative arts, and late 19th and 20th century fine art. Visitors will find designs by the great 20th century masters, as well as creative works by today's most innovative young artists. Look for Art Deco, Mid Century Modern from America, France, Italy, and Scandinavia paired with the work of young designers.
Priveekollektie represents internationally well-known artists and designers and also provides young upcoming talents a platform for showing their exceptional limited design and art pieces. Key in the collection is the combination of contemporary art and limited edition design and the crossing of the fine line between both disciplines. Before opening the gallery in 2006 Irving and Miriam van Dijk avidly collected art and design. Their personal approach, knowledge and taste has developed one of the leading galleries for collectible design in Europe, with exceptional exhibitions and participations in renowned international fairs in Paris, Basel, Miami, New York and London for both contemporary art and design.
Reinier Bosch is a young and upcoming designer inspired by photographic reality both in his native Netherlands and abroad. His works are layered, in the composition and arrangement of materials as well as in the stories they tell. The use of common materials and a reference to everyday life is characteristic of his work.
During a trip through Tibet, he observed spray-painted objects in the streets and their surroundings, both colored by the wind. This formed the starting point for his ‘Pond’ series: both the object and the floor underneath it are colored as if a pot of paint poured over them, integrating the surroundings into the actual piece. Another milestone is the creation of the WHAAM! table, that he designed during trips to Istanbul and Shanghai.
As an artist, Catharina van de Ven highly admires the classic visual language of the early sculptors. She is fascinated by their artisan idiom and beholds the quality of their heritage with great respect. This fascination, and the classic sculpting education she enjoyed in Belgium and Florence, make that the artisan craft is always visible in her work and remains the foundation of all that she creates.
Modern techniques, such as 3D printing and synthetics, present new and equally intriguing challenges for her to translate materials into monumental work. Yet, she has found that the old processes of shaping, casting, grinding and polishing are essential to reach perfection and instill authenticity in her sculptures. As a result, old and new melt into the core of her work which always embodies an unavoidable narrative or suggestive element. For Catharina, every piece of work has to originate from a genuine experience and must have its own sincere identity. A lot of thought, emotion, and progressive insight go into the making of her work which, in the end, is meant to connect with the viewer.
