About the Workshops

Workshop Dance Film Abroad

On January 21 3:15 pm – 4:15 pm, Cinedans Dance on Screen Festival director Martine Dekker (Amsterdam, Netherlands) and Jumping Frames International Dance Video Festival representative Andrea Baker (Hong Kong, China) will present a workshop and discussion at PAMM. They will share their insights on their international festivals, including development, mission, and goals for the future. Dekker and Baker will also discuss the similarities and differences between European and Asian aesthetics in dance film creation and development. Perspectives will also touch on how small organizations and individual artists can broaden the genre and inspire other makers.

Workshop Creative Process: From Brain to Body to Screen

In this workshop by Writer, Director, Producer and Choreographer Gabri Christa, participants aim to gain an understanding of choreographing for the camera and the choreography of the camera when recording dance for all screens. This experiential, hands-on workshop requires all participants to choreograph, dance, and film. Focusing on single-shot (one long take) filmmaking, the duet of the camera and the dance will create a firm understanding of the interaction between the two, enabling participants to create work without complicated editing. The workshop will take place on January 21 from 10.00 am - 1.00 pm at MDC Live Arts Lab
