Francine Houben of Mecanoo gives a lecture ‘People, Place, Purpose’ on Wednesday June 24, 2015 from
6.00-7.30 PM with drinks afterwards at The Washington Chapter of AIA, District Architecture Center. You can register at the AIA|DC website.
The photo exhibition of Mecanoo opens the same day, June 24,  at The American Institute of Architects and runs until November 20.

About Francine Houben – Mecanoo

Francine Houben Hon. FAIA, creative director Mecanoo architecten, leads the firm to success in The Netherlands and abroad, amassing a portfolio of work that is wide-ranging, inspired by global challenges and with a sustainable view on society. Her work has received international critical acclaim, each project illustrating the three fundamental elements of her architectural vision: people, place, purpose.

She currently leads the revitalization of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library in Washington DC. The Bruce C. Bolling Building in Boston, a municipal office of great significance for the district of Roxbury, was opened in March 2015. In November, Queen Máxima of The Netherlands will present the 2015 Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds Prize to Francine Houben for her oeuvre.

Mecanoo photo exhibition at AIA Headquarter in Washington DC

A photo exhibition of buildings designed by Mecanoo will be on display at the headquarters of the American Institute of Architects in Washington DC, from June 24 until November 20, 2015. The exhibition gives a glimpse of Mecanoo’s impressive portfolio of designs realized all over the world.

Founded in 1984, the Netherlands-based office Mecanoo architecten is an internationally renowned architecture practice. Its highly multidisciplinary approach has resulted in a wide-ranging portfolio of designs including houses, neighbourhoods, skyscrapers, campuses, cities, schools, theatres, libraries, stations, museums and even a chapel.

The Bruce C. Bolling Building in Boston, a municipal office of great significance for the district of Roxbury, was opened in March 2015. Currently, the practice is leading the revitalization of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library in Washington DC.

Mecanoo does not have a form-based approach but rather a focus on people, place and purpose. This starts by observing. The next step is designing space for people, according to the place, understanding that the buildings’ purpose will unpredictably change over time. Above all, Mecanoo is searching to create identity in a world of globalization.
