Rob de Oude Art in Wichita & Port Washington

After two exhibitions earlier this month in New York and Brooklyn, work by Rob de Oude will be on display in Wichita and Port Washington. The Bushwick based painter from the Netherlands will show his straight colored lines based paintings at the Steckline Gallery in Wichita, KS, from October 28 until November 18. From Novermber 1-29, several paintings will be on display at the Adler Gallery at Port Washington Public Library. 

About the Paintings

The paintings and drawings by Rob de Oude are composed of meticulously placed repeated lines, with the overlapping lines revealing geometric shapes and patterns. Repeatedly using a single unit, like a straight line, displays the infinite possibilities of a synchronized effort. Layered bands and grids of colors and collisions of angled lines create an elusive sense of space, shifting colors, moires effects and deceptively bending lines. De Oude mixes an intuitive use of color, rhythm, composition and layering choices with a systematic mode of painting. These juxtapositions between intuition and methodology, are part of seeking an orchestrated balance.

About Rob de Oude

Rob de Oude studied painting, sculpture and art history at the Hoge School voor de Kunsten in Amsterdam and SUNY Purchase, NY. He has shown in the US and abroad, notably at Galerie Gourvennec Ogor in Marseille, France, and Storefront Bushwick in Brooklyn, NY, and has participated in several art fairs in the US and Europe. de Oude has been featured a.o. in the NY Post, L Magazine, Artnet Magazine, NYArts Magazine, The New Criterion, Brooklyn Magazine, Bushwick Daily, ARTNews. He has his studio in Brooklyn, NY, and is founding member and co-director of Transmitter, NY.
