Benny Sings Joins Stones Throw Records

Dutch artist Benny Sings signs contract at Stones Throw Records

_D_utchCultureUSA is very proud to announce that Dutch artist Benny Sings has joined Stones Throw Records as of this week! Stones Throw Records is an American independent record label based in Los Angeles, California. Since it’s creation, Stones Throw has released music ranging from hip-hop to experimental psych-rock.

“Stones Throw to me and my surroundings is an institution. That my tracks will be released under that same flag is a dream come true.” – Benny

To celebrate the signing at Stones Throw Records, Benny Sings is releasing a new track: ‘Passionfruit,’ a cover of the popular Drake song. Benny says of his Drake cover:

“This was one of my favorite songs for a while. We played it a lot when we were in L.A. for writing sessions actually. I love that realvpopulair music can sometimes still reach me. Pop music has always been my goal. I liked the idea of presenting the song in a more old fashioned conventional way. To show that the actual song is really good.”

About Benny Sings

Benny Sings is a Dutch artist who’s been performing, producing and releasing records for over a decade. His debut album “Champagne People” (2003) made an immediate impact, garnering positive press and earning Sings the 2004 Essent Award. Sophomore effort “I Love You” (2005) unleashed worldwide acclaim for Sings, as BBC DJ Gilles Peterson became a fan, while single “Little Donna” was a hit on France’s Radio Nova. His third album, “At Home” (2007) spread his appeal further, getting positive reviews in the US and Japan.

Sings’ follow-up album “ART” increased Benny’s recognition in America, which was bolstered a year later by a subsequent greatest hits compilation, 2012’s “Best of Benny Sings,” which led to an opening slot on Mayer Hawthorne’s European tour and a phenomenal amount of international radio airplay, including BBC Radio 1 (Gilles Peterson), BBC Radio 2 (Jamie Cullum), KCRW Los Angeles (Anthony Valadez) and Studio Brussel (Lefto).

Benny’s most recent effort, 2015’s “STUDIO,” has earned him the best reviews of his career; the Dutch music magazine Volkskrant called it the “highlight of his oeuvre” in a four-star review, while hailed “STUDIO” as the “best album of his career to date” and the Huffington Post deemed Benny “the best artist you never heard of.”
