Do you want to know when your favorite DJ will be playing some tracks, or are you curious about new Dutch voices in town? In our #DutchDanceAgenda, we post monthly updates on who is playing when and where, and we highlight different Dutch DJs that are spinning their decks in the US at the moment.

Let’s face it: the best party is a Dutch party. As a brand, a passion, and a movement, “Dutch Dance” has dominated the international dance scene for years. Many Dutch DJs have gathered a worldwide following and fly all around the globe to entertain one energetic crowd after the other. Proving that established dance icons and fresh talent do not need to stand in each other’s way, Dutch legends like Tiësto and Hardwell have been taking the new generation underneath their wings.

From underground talent to household names, the Netherlands’ party scene has built the reputation for harboring everyone’s kind of DJ. However, with so many successful and famous DJs coming from such a small dot on the map, it is almost impossible to keep track of all their performance in the United States. Armin van Buuren

For more than 15 years, the Grammy-nominated Dutchman has been living to the rhythm of his own, international success. Armin van Buuren‘s 5 times number one position in the critically acclaimed DJ Mag’s Top 100 poll has been the result of his loyalty to fans, his creativity in the studio, the perseverance with which he hosts his weekly radio show “A State of Trance” and the energy he transcends to the crowds in front of him. Despite the heavy pressure that comes along with being one of the world’s most popular DJ, Armin has always kept his focus on the music. And that’s exactly what keeps him going.

 

Bassjackers

Best friends since high school, DJ, Marlon Flohr, and producer, Ralph van Hilst came together in 2007 to create the Dutch duo known as Bassjackers. The duo exploded onto the scene and in 2011 their dancefloor bomb “Mush Mush” was picked up by Tiësto and released on his label Musical Freedom. 

Since then, Bassjackers have reached massive new heights in their career with numerous chart-topping bangers and hit collaborations with the likes of Martin Garrix, Afrojack, KSHMR, and Showtek, to name a few, as well as remixes for A-list artists including Rihanna, Enrique Iglesias, and Ne-Yo.

 

Beesmunt Soundsystem

Both born in Amsterdam, childhood friends David van der Leeuw and Luigi Vittorio Jansen turned into a producer-DJ combo under the name of Beesmunt Soundsystem in 2008. Being two jacks of all trades, the duo rocks their crowds with a combination of House, Techno, Disco and Afro, which continues to proof to be a successful formula. Playing at bars, clubs, fashion shows and even festivals across Europe, the duo is now landing gigs in the US as well. Next to their stunning live performances, the duo has also released their own productions and remixes and has teamed up with fellow Dutch DJ and producer Tom Trago to improve their skill. Be on the look-out, because these experimental talents are far from done. 

 

Bingo Players

Maarten Hoogstraten wasn’t like other kids his age. When he was 10, his friends were buying toys to play with, but Maarten was already spending his cash on vinyl and CDs. “You know how it starts,” he said with a chuckle. “I was the one who bought records when I was young, I bought lots of vinyl, seven-inches, twelve inches, and when CDs came about I bought a lot of CDs, growing up, I spent all my money on music.”

When he was a teenager, two events would change his life. An early music software program called ProTracker was released, and he would meet Paul Baümer, who would become his musical partner for the better part of the next 15 years until he suddenly passed away from cancer in 2013.  Though they didn’t start out as DJs, once the demand grew for them to play out live, they learned how to mix on CDJs. Soon, they became regulars on the EDM circuit, playing massive festivals, like Electric Daily Carnival, Tomorrowland, and Coachella. Maarten remembered: “I think we started to become better producers once we started to DJ,” noting that they would bring new tunes on the road and play for a crowd to gauge their reaction.

But in June 2013, at the height of their success, Paul suddenly fell ill. Maarten was stunned and didn’t know what to do. But Paul’s last wishes were for his best friend and his musical partner to keep making music. “He always said to me, ‘If you can find solace and continue what we started, please do so. Please continue the music. Carry on the Bingo Players flag,’” said Maarten. 

 

Blasterjaxx

Thom Jongkind and Idir Makhlaf, better known as producer/deejay duo Blasterjaxx in the music industry, are anything but the same. While one is often prominent and empowering, the other prefers staying quietly in the background – a fairly high contrast in character. However, there is one significant reason for the phenomenal connection between these two personalities: their passion and love of music.  

After the collaboration between the former Blasterjaxx duo ended, the two mutually decided Jongkind would continue with the label. Because Thom believed that Blasterjaxx would only be complete as a duo, he started looking for possibilities of a new, and this time around, perfect collaboration. In the meantime, Thom had been charmed by Idir Makhlaf for a while, who was operating by the name of Macosta. Only after a few collaborations it was already clear how well they hit off; a new Blasterjaxx duo was born with – what subsequently appeared – an unparalleled amount of talent and potential. 

Together they plan on taking over the world with their unique sound, which is best described as a crossover between electro-house, progressive and big room.  

 

Chocolate Puma

DJ Dobre (Gaston Steenkist) and DJ Zki (René ter Horst) met when they started to work together on a jingle for a Dutch radio station from Haarlem. Since their 1993 debut single “Give it Up,” the group has switched names so often its hard to keep track. They have performed under the name “The Good Men”, René et Gaston, Mechanical Soul Saloon, and many more. Nevertheless, their contributions to the Dance scene are profound: they have produced several chart-topping records, featured on many high-profile festivals, and Gaston is even responsible for the career of another famous Dutch DJ, Laidback Luke, whom he took under his wing and helped get a record deal.

With their addictive house sound, the group has had several appearances on the US Billboard Hot 100 and Dance Club Songs chart and continue to entertain audiences in Europe as well as in the US.  

 

 

Chuckie

Chuckie’s leading mixing skills and distinctive productions not only show an indispensable complement to the Dutch dance industry, the international dance-scene has also been giving him a warm welcome. Driven by ambition, enthusiasm and pure passion for music, his characteristic set makes the crowd go wild and his many productions reflect his true visionary in his craft works. Nowadays, Chuckie still continues to surprise the crowd with his mind-blowing style and his story is yet to continue.  

 

Droeloe

This duo’s emphasis on their artistic strengths has seen them weave sonically and visually intricate stories through their music. Their signature skull has quickly become synonymous with progressive music and breathtaking art highlighted by their impeccable percussion-heavy sound infused with the catchiest melodies and stunning use of visuals.

They hit the electronic music scene in 2016 when San Holo brought them aboard bitbird where the duo released a string of singles through the rest of the year including “zZz” and “Wake the Warrior” establishing themselves as a new force to be reckoned with. The duo’s songwriting and producing continued to mature giving way to another string of hits across different labels such as Lowly Palace and Monstercat.

The duo returned to bitbird for their biggest piece of work to date – their debut EP A Moment In Time. Featuring five unique cover pieces and a beautiful visual storyboard, the EP was a hit amassing close to 25 million streams in less than a year and launching them on tour with San Holo on over forty-dates across four continents.

2018 has now seen the duo continue to find ways to extrapolate their unique DROELOE sound into a variety of styles plus make successful festival debuts at Okeechobee, BUKU, Coachella Do Lab, EDC Las Vegas, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza and more en-route to a debut headline fall tour of their own.

 

Fedde Le Grand

Fedde Le Grand is considered to be one of the most defining figures in the fast-evolving genre of House music. His influence is felt continually throughout the electronic landscape; Fedde’s beats, grooves, melodies, and rhythms surround us all and have done for many years. He belonged for nearly a decade as one of the top 30 most influential DJ’s according to the prestigious DJ Mag Top 100, has been credited countless awards and remixed the biggest artists around – from Coldplay, Madonna, will.i.am, Robbie Williams, Everything But The Girl, Fatboy Slim, to more. 

 

Hardwell

At the age of 25, Robbert van de Corput, better known as Hardwell, capped off a 10 year journey when he was crowned World’s #1 DJ in the 2013 Top 100 DJs Poll cementing his position as the electronic scenes newest superstar DJ and becoming the youngest ever winner of the coveted Top 100 DJs award. In 2014 the Dutch megastar was crowned World’s #1 DJ for a second consecutive year. Having conquered almost every global territory from Asia to Africa, South America, Australia and Europe, the remarkable story behind this archetypal international DJ is one of devotion and relentless hard work. Currently, Hardwell ranks number four on DJ Mag Top 100.  

 

Jay Hardway

Starting with small gigs in pubs when he was just 18 years old, Jobke Heiblom soon played for bigger crowds in clubs. Inspired by Tiësto and his ideas about DJ-ing, as well as by the productions of Afrojack, Laidback Luke and Vato Gonzales, Jay Hardway started developing his own skills as a DJ. Collaborating with Martin Garrix, Jay Hardway now has two big releases on his name: “Error 404” and “Wizard”. His “Inspire” podcasts come out on a regular basis, and he did some successful remixes for Norwegian singer Margaret Berger and Dutch duo the Opposites. He has now been accepted unto the American scene as well and books great venues almost every month. 

 

Joris Voorn

Joris Voorn is a record producer and Dj from Rotterdam, Netherlands. Raised in a musical family, music naturally became an important part of Voornʼs life from an early age. Electronic music first caught his attention in the mid- 90ʼs, and he started DJʼing in 1997. After developing a more focused interest in house and techno, Joris invested in the versatile MC-303 Groovebox and began to experiment with synth sounds and drumloops. In 2002 his carreer took off with the release of his EP “Muted Trax”, and with the 2003 release “Lost Memories” he really started to make a name for himself. 

 

Julian Jordan

Julian Doppenberg was signed by Spinnin’ Records on the age of 16. In a collaboration with another young Dutch DJ Martin Garrix he released the track “BFAM”, which immediately became a success. Collaborating with other artists such as Sander van Doorn and Firebeatz, Julian Jordan was able make a name for himself in the dance scene. He brings a fresh spin to the floor, fusing some of its trademark sound and bombast with exciting new twists and influences.

There’s also the matter of his full-throttle, constantly evolving live set – something you can expect to see more of in the near future. As well as working tirelessly in the studio to continue developing his own sound – with a focus on new solo productions – Julian is also launching his own event concept: Play On. With a world tour in the works, it’s set to become a mainstay of the EDM landscape over the next few years.

Kill the Buzz

Kill the Buzz started out as a local DJ at well-visited student parties like “Luxaflex” from the same event promoters as Rauw&Lauw. Within a couple of months, fellow DJs started to recognize his talent for producing and he already had the opportunity to work with a couple of (upcoming) DJs / producers in the scene.

Kill The Buzz’s sound consists of a harmonious big-room sound and a cutting edge drop with that hardstyle energy to make club dance-floors shake on their grounds. 

 

Laidback Luke

Born in the Philippines, raised in Holland, Luke van Scheppingen, known as Laidback Luke is with no exaggeration the reference point of the dance scene for the thousands of clubbers these days. His unlimited energy brightly results in both stunning live sets and continuously highly anticipated studio releases. The Dutch heavy weight house master is loved all over the globe: they worship him in Amnesia on Ibiza, they sell out his Super You&Me event wherever it goes to, and they put him on the 20th place on By-All-Means-Wanted TOP 100 DJs list. With the crazy energy that Luke conveys and the martial arts that he practices, rest assured his future will be out of this world!

 

Legowelt

Legowelt

Legowelt, original name Danny Wolfers, is truly one of a kind. Not just a DJ but an electronic producer and performer, he spans many different scenes with ease and always with his own unique style, miles away from the usual hype or trends of any given day. 

His vast musical output spans many different worlds – some real, some imagined – and does so in a unique and captivating fashion that keeps listeners engaged. Emerging in the early nineties as a key part of the Dutch West Coast scene and Bunker family, he has since become a core member of the crew. Legowelt takes inspiration from Detroit and Chicago dance music pioneers, but also fantasy films and sci-fi culture, and is nowadays a modern-day techno pin-up in his own right.  

 

Martin Garrix

Part of the explosion of Dutch EDM DJs who emerged during the 2012-2013 season, Martin Garrix kicked off his career in a high-profile way, first landing on the dance charts with his 2012 remix of Christina Aguilera’s “Your Body.” Born Martijn Garritsen, the then-16-year-old DJ spent 2012 remixing Aguilera, signing with Spinnin’ Records, and releasing the “BFAM” single in collaboration with Julian Jordan.

In 2013 he released his solo single “Animals,” which hit number one in the U.K. and reached the Top Ten in eight other countries. His Gold Skies EP rounded up those tracks, adding two more charting songs: “Tremor” and the title track. Garrix also found time to perform and mix the world over, resulting in being the number 1 DJ in the world today.

 

Martyn

Throughout the many layers of his winding 16+ years in electronic music, Holland native (now Washington DC resident) Martijn Deijkers, aka Martyn, has always stood in a genreless scene of his own. Though his influences are wide-ranging, Martyn’s music is deeply inspired by the futuristic and melodic aspects of Detroit and Chicago. 

His rhythmically diverse sound floats across D&B, dubstep and various strains of bass music, just as smoothly as it traverses house and techno, and encompasses abstract ambient soundscapes. Based on musicality and energy in equal parts, Martyn’s layered tracks are a rapt exploration of melancholy, futurism and dancefloor hypnotism. 

 

Nicky Romero

Strike up a conversation about the current state of electronic music and it won’t be long before Nicky Romero gets an emphatic mention. And quite rightly so, because at the age of just twenty-six and in the space of only a few prolific years, the Amsterdam-based superstar has managed to build nothing short of a remarkable musical empire.

Celebrated the world over for countless chart-topping records and his electrifying energy in front of hundreds of thousands on the world’s most distinguished stages, the loveable Dutch performer, producer, Protocol Recordings chief and global brand ambassador has already carved an international reputation for himself as one of the most exciting and industrious artists of his generation.

Perpetually dedicated to growing and maturing the Nicky Romero brand at every turn the Protocol don continues to vindicate his position as one in just a handful of the most influential and venerated forces in the international music arena today.

 

Noisia

Working from the studio in their hometown of Groningen Nik Roos, Martijn Sonderen and Thijs de Vlieger have gradually developed and cultivated a sound that’s all their own; a sound that’s obsessed with production techniques; a sound that’s instantly recognisable whether you’re hearing three minutes of a Noisia track dropped at a festival or three hours of it while playing Devil May Cry 5. Having pushed the envelope and successfully managed to blend incredible sound design with unrelenting and uncompromising beats and basslines, Noisia’s sound is undoubtedly unique.

 

Oliver Heldens

Oliver Heldens caught the attention of Tiësto, when he released his single ‘Gecko’.  Tiesto immediately signed him to his label; Musical Freedom and released the track with vocals from British singer Becky Hill on June 23, 2014. Heldens also has a weekly podcast titled Heldeep Radio. His songs “Gecko”, “Last All Night” and his remix of Dr. Kucho!’s “Can’t Stop Playing” charted as top 5 singles in the UK, reaching 1st, 5th and 4th position respectively. Since 2015, Heldens has been performing under the alias HiLo as well.  

 

R3hab

Performing and recording under the name R3hab, EDM artist Fadil El Ghoul started his career in 2008 producing the track “Mrkrstft” for Hardwell. He teamed up with Hardwell once again in 2009 on the single “Blue Magic,” and worked with Afrojack in 2011 on “Aces High (Prutata).” 

He subsequently garnered prestigious 2014 slots at Tomorrowland, Future Music, Creamfields, and Summerburst, and that same year he put out the 12″ “Androids,” “Flashlight” with Deorro, and “Ready for the Weekend,” which were among some of his biggest-selling singles. 

He also landed a featured spot on Calvin Harris’ 2014 album Motion, and a DJ set at the Coachella Music Festival followed in 2015. In 2016, he teamed with the R&B vocalist Ciara for the single “Get Up.”

 

Sam Feldt

While only in his early twenties, Dutchman Sam Feldt has become quite the deep house tastemaker of his day. With amazing remix work as well as solid hits like the early 2015 release ‘Show Me Love’, which proved to be his definite claim to fame, he’s one of the DJs to watch when it comes to a new sound flooding the scene. Sam Feldt is definitely not a stranger to the house music scene. After working behind the scenes as a producer for a long time, perfecting his musical talents, he decides to show the world what he’s capable of by uploading his first tunes by the end of summer ‘13. Within a year Sam signs with Spinnin’ Records and releases his first track on the label.

 It doesn’t take long for the young producer to get sensed by international dance media as part of a new exciting wave of melodic deep house. With almost two million plays on SoundCloud and 250.000 plays in one week as well as a #1 Hypem spot for his remix of the Sander van Doorn & Firebeatz release ‘Guitar Track’, Sam established himself in the scene.

 

San Holo

Sander van Dijck commonly known by his stage name San Holo, is not just a DJ: As DJ, Singer, Guitar Player and Lyricist, San taught himself to play guitar at an early age. He gained international recognition for his remix of Dr. Dre’s “The Next Episode”, which currently has over 150 million views on YouTube. He has toured the world and has gained a credible reputation in the EDM world. In this next phase of his development, San Holo is taking the inspiration he gathers from bands like Explosions In The Sky, Sigur Ros and very ethereal soundscapes, beautiful melancholic music as he takes a leap with new sounds and music.  He is motivated by the fact that he’s never found a way to get that kind of vibe into the EDM music he was producing until half a year ago, when he realized that he could use guitars instead of a synth and still make it into a drop and a buildup.

San has released music on several record labels including Spinnin’ Records, OWSLA, Barong Family, and Monstercat. He is also no stranger to the Billboard Dance Charts, as his single “Light” soared to #13 on the Hot Dance/Electronic Chart. 

He also founded bitbird, a label which has released several of his singles including “Still Looking” and “Light”. San Holo’s first EP, Cosmos, was released via Heroic on 18 September 2014 and was in the Top 100 Electronic category of iTunes. 

 

Secret Cinema

Secret Cinema is the dance-act alias of Dutch techno DJ Jeroen Verheij. Back in 1990, Verheij was inspired to start producing electronic music when he saw somebody goofing around with music software at a computer conference. Since then, the Rotterdam DJ adopted the name Meng Syndicate and cooperate with the likes of Speedy J and Peter Slaghuis, but also Michel de Hey has contributed to Secret Cinema’s production. Secret Cinema’s most famous song would probably be Timeless Attitude (1994). 

 

Showtek

Over the past two years, Showtek has become more than an act; it’s a movement, a tribe formed by the producer duo and its fans that is united in its love for music, excitement, artistic freedom and adventure. Wouter and Sjoerd Janssen, aka Showtek, two brothers from Eindhoven have been making music for over a decade.

Two rebels kicking against the shins of the establishment, speaking a language the party crowd could believe in. It was in 2012 when they truly exploded onto the global dance scene with the release of ‘Cannonball’. Countless new fans joined, new productions got recognized and reached all corners of the planet.

 

Sick Individuals

Meeting at the conservatory for music in the Netherlands, Rinze ‘Ray’ Hofstee and Joep ‘Jim’ Smeele formed an instant connection bound by a shared love of music composition and electronic dance music. Drawing influences from Daft Punk, Bingo Players and Swedish House Mafia, their infectious blend of big beats and progressive house melodies quickly garnered them serious attention in all the right places. Coming from the Netherlands, the pair has released on some of the world’s most influential imprints: Revealed Recordings, Spinning Records, Warner, Interscope, Def Jam, and Capital. Official remixes for Rihanna & David Guetta, Madonna, Moby, Rita Ora, Avicii and Icona Pop have peppered the global radio airwaves, ensuring their sound reaches millions of ears in all four corners of the planet.

The duo has notched up an impressive array of appearances at the world’s most prestigious venues and festivals – Tomorrowland, Ultra Music Festival, Sensation, Mysteryland, Electric Zoo to name but a few – Sick Individuals continue to set new boundaries with each passing year.

 

Spag Heddy

Straight from the kitchens of Pastanistan, Spag Heddy delivers your daily need for tomato bass. Releases like Oh My! [Never Say Die], OG Meatball EP [Buygore] and the official remix for platinum hit Don’t Let Me Down (The Chainsmokers ft. Daya) made waves in the world of bass music, and have secured him a spot amongst the bass lords.

Spag gained fame in the bass market giant USA with several headlined tours, from festival main stages to intimate and raw spots, leaving every witness destroyed with a snapped neck. Don’t miss out and be embraced by his noodly appendage.

 

Tiësto

Acclaimed by both DJ Magazine and fans of electronic dance music, Tiësto launched his career as one of the world’s foremost trance DJs, due in part to his legendary six-hour live sets, and went on to embrace a more pop-oriented EDM approach. 

The fifth Tiësto studio album, A Town Called Paradise, appeared in 2014 on Casablanca. It featured the most pop-oriented productions of his career and a slew of guest vocalists who included Ladyhawke and Icona Pop. Tiësto appeared on DJ Mag Top 100 2017 as number 5.

 

Ummet Ozcan

In an age where very few Artists break the mold and truly shine through as unique and innovative, Dutch/Turkish star Ummet Ozcan raises the bar and continues to surge in popularity worldwide.

Continuously garnering huge support from a broad array of the world’s top jocks like Tiesto, Hardwell, David Guetta, Avicii, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike and many many more, Ummet Ozcan is firming his position at the forefront of the next generation of brilliant Dance Music Producers. With an unprecedented amount of artists seeking the formula for club-­‐friendly absolution, Ummet continues to deliver dancefloor- and festival essentials with each unique release and can frequently be found in the highest regions of the global charts. Ummet is also known for his softsynth and soundbank design for well-established music software houses like Rob Papen (Albino, Predator) and Acces Music (Virus).  

 

Vicetone

Vicetone, a Groningen-based duo consisting of Ruben den Boer and Victor Pool, has had a big presence in the US over the last couple of years, maybe even bigger than in their country of origin. After quickly coming up with Monstercat as progressive house producers, the duo entered the DJ Mag Top 100 in 2013 on place 60. After signing with Spinnin’ Records the duo had several hits with remixes of Adele, Calvin Harris, and Maroon 5, and also released a song with Nicky Romero. They have played at Ultra Music Festival and are still taking the US by storm.

 

W&W

After meeting up back in 2007 Willem van Hanegem & Ward van der Harst came together to form W&W and they haven’t looked back since. The past years this Dutch production and DJ duo have transcended the boundaries of genre and traverse the globe with their music and performances. Yellow Claw may not be a household name outside of the Netherlands but have a look at their YouTube channel and you’ll be hard-pressed to find one of their singles with less than 2,000,000 views. They take the newest sounds from the club and drive them off a cliff. 

Hailing from Amsterdam, the trio first exploded onto the scene after founding the Yellow Claw Thursday night party at the Jimmy Woo, which quickly gained a reputation as being one of the wildest and most unique parties in the city. The gang recently released their new album, “New Blood”, you’ll be sure to hear it at their shows!
