On April 22, 2025, Thames & Hudson will release Miffy and the Artists, a beautifully illustrated children’s book that celebrates the 70th birthday of the world-famous Dutch rabbit. Created by Dick Bruna in 1955, Miffy (Nijntje) has become an international icon—beloved for her simplicity, bold colors, and quiet charm.

This new book introduces young readers to the art that inspired Bruna’s visual style. Through clever pairings of Miffy illustrations and famous artworks, the book highlights connections between Bruna’s work and that of artists like Frida Kahlo, Yayoi Kusama, Henri Matisse, Vincent van Gogh, and Andy Warhol.

Each page invites children to look closely, ask questions, and make connections between Miffy’s world and the wider world of art. With short descriptions and carefully chosen works, Miffy and the Artists makes modern and contemporary art approachable for a young audience, and fun for adults too.

The book is hardcover, 64 pages, and illustrated in full color. It will be distributed in the U.S. by W. W. Norton.

Dick Bruna (1927–2017), born in Utrecht, wrote and illustrated 124 books during his lifetime. His clean, minimal design was influenced by modernist masters and shaped generations of readers around the globe. Miffy and the Artists is a fitting tribute to both his legacy and the artists who helped shape his creative vision.
