_O_n Monday, April 8, professionals from the jazz scenes of New York and Amsterdam, and mayor of Amsterdam Femke Halsema, made plans for new international collaborations in the jazz fields of both cities: the New York – Amsterdam Jazz Initiative. Aboard the tall ship Clipper Stad Amsterdam, which is visiting New York this week, mayor Halsema kicked off the meeting with remarks about the history of jazz in Amsterdam and its roots and limitless inspiration coming from the United States and New York City in particular:

Afterwards, there was a round table discussion with jazz educators, presenters, musicians, programmers, and marketeers from organizations in both New York and Amsterdam to discuss strategies of collaboration. Topics included audience development, women in jazz, social inclusion, innovation, and young professionals. All partners will be joining forces in order to develop joint jazz partnerships that will advance the exchange of ideas, knowledge, expertise, and experiences between musicians, students, educators, and venues in New York and Amsterdam:
