June 16th to 23th, Sarah Jonker’s work will be on display at The Rack Shack in Bushwick, NY
June 16th to 23th, the exhibition The Monkey’s On The Table by Sarah Jonker will be on display at the gallery below lingerie boutique The Rack Shack. The Monkey’s On The Table will be the first of a series of curated performances and exhibitions by Dutch artists at The Rack Shack in Bushwick, Brooklyn.
The Monkey’s On The Table is produced by the Cola Connection, a production company that aims to promote Dutch performing and visual art in New York. The Cola Connection is Corine Overvest (Amsterdam) and Laura Henny (Dutch living in New York), two art-loving, ambitious Dutch producers who are proud of the talent and work their home country creates. Their dream is to introduce the world to Dutch artists they believe in so their work isn’t limited to the audience of their tiny home country, The Netherlands.
Sarah Jonker‘s drawings are poetically theatrical. Her dark, absurd universe is jam-packed with detached limbs and blatant sexuality. Created in India ink, crayon, and ecoline, her compositions conjure elements of surrealism and postimpressionism. More importantly, they’ll make you laugh and desire to be a statue.
Jonker is a Dutch visual and performing artist. In 2006, she graduated from the prestigious Academy of Theater in Arnhem, The Netherlands. In conjunction with her acting career, she has produced artwork for shows by Dutch theater companies including De Toneelmakerij and Likeminds.
Over the course of her career, Jonker has achieved recognition as both an actor and a visual artist. She has had exhibitions in Arnhem, Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Alkmaar, and Berlin, and we are delighted to debut her work in New York City.
