Wende Snijders and CCO – Jorinde Keesmaat at National Sawdust during winter season
It seems like the Dutch won’t let a strong winter stop them from warming some souls in the US, through their engaging sounds. This winter season, highly talented Dutch musicians will take the stage at National Sawdust in Brooklyn, knowing: Wende Snijders, a singer who combines theatre, cabaret, song and Sprechgesang. She performs her ‘Winterreisse’ tour, including original lyrics from Wilhelm Mülleras. And CCO presents ‘Anaïs Nin And Odysseus Women’, directed by Jorinde Keesmaat, with works from Louis Andriessen. Be fast to secure your seats, as these coveted tickets normally sell out fast.
“Winterreise is an adventure which tells a poetic story about loss, mortality, death, love and acceptance. Boudewijn Tarenskeen pushes the boundaries with his adaptation of this iconic song recital, and knowingly and elegantly breaks with convention. He challenges not only Gerard and me but also the audience to reconsider the traditions of the song recital with an open mind”.
“I would love, love, love.” The desire of the mythical Ulysses and the desire of the legendary Anaïs Nin. Dutch director Jorinde Keesmaat brings in a U.S. premiere two distinctive works by Louis Andriessen together in one direction. The rarely performed Odysseus’ Women (1995) for four female voices and synthesizer and the famous Anaïs Nin (2010). Conducted by Neal Goren, we set the story of the colossal figures as we investigate the relationship between archetypal societal patterns and the extraordinary will of the individual. Andriessen’s fascination with prominent women in history form the basis of the two compositions. An encounter between two worlds, a confrontation.
National Sawdust (NS), an unparalleled, artist-led, non-profit venue, is a place for exploration and discovery. A place where emerging and established artists can share their music with serious music fans and casual listeners alike.
