3 Award-Winning Young Musicians to Perform in LA

_T_hree talented young musicians, Maxim Heijmerink (piano), Yente Lottman (violin), and Niels Jacobs (trombone), laureates of the Prinses Christina Concours in the Netherlands, will perform on May 5th at the First Presbyterian Church in LA.

The Prinses Christina Concours has been organizing competitions for young musicians for more than forty years. Each year around 500 participants take part in the Princess Christina Concours for classical music. There are also editions of the competition for young composers and jazz musicians.

The Netherland-America Foundation (NAF) and the Dutch Consulates have invited the laureates to perform in the US. Every year, the Prinses Christina Concours organizes many concerts abroad for their laureates in order to improve their network and gain international exposure.

About Niels Jacobs

Niels Jacobs was born in 1999 in Leiden. At eight years old he started music lessons and playing the euphonium in a local marching band. At the age of ten he switched to trombone and a few years later he discovered his love for classical music. When he was accepted in the Youth Orchestra of the Netherlands, he got a new teacher: Remko de Jager, who teaches at the Conservatory of Amsterdam where Niels started lessons in 2016 and started his bachelor Classical Trombone in 2017. During his bachelor, Niels was taught by Pierre Volders and Jörgen van Rijen as well. In 2018 he won the Princess Christina Competition, followed by many solo concerts in the whole country.

About Maxim Heijmerink

Maxim Heijmerink (Amsterdam, 2000) is pianist and composer and started at age eleven. Finalist in 2012 at the ‘Concertgebouw Youth Contest’. Accepted, 2015, to the “Young Talent Class” of the Amsterdam Conservatory as a student of Mila Baslawskaja. Maxim attended international masterclasses by Nikolai Demidenko, Dmitry Bashkirov, Emanuel Krasovsky and Igor Roma. In 2017 and in 2018 he won the First Prize of the ‘Prinses Christina Concours’. Maxim won other (inter-)national prizes. Highlights of his many performances: Concertgebouw Amsterdam performing his own compositions with a chamber music ensemble; Mozart Quartet live on National Radio with Concertgebouw Orchestra members; Berlin, soloist ‘Beethoven’s Piano Concerto’; Ahoy (audience of 20.000) Maxim’s Composition for piano and orchestra”. Maxim also likes jazz, sports, being with his friends and is a first year student at the Amsterdam Conservatory.

About Yente Lottman

Yente Lottman (2001) was born in Amsterdam, into a family of professional musicians. She began playing the violin at the age of four. Since 2017 she studies with professor Sarah Kapustin in the young talent class of the Conservatory of Amsterdam. In 2018 Yente won the Dutch Britten violin Competition. And in 2019 she won the first price in the regional finals of the Prinses Christina Competition. As soloist Yente has played with several (youth) orchestras in the Netherlands. As a chamber musician she forms a duo together with double bassist Sasha Witteveen. In 2018 they were invited to play at festival Wonderfeel in Hilversum. Yente also participated in several youth orchestras in the Netherlands.
