Si Può?

These two words open Leoncavallo’s “Pagliacci” and invite us to watch its plot unfold. This festive book offers a rich overview of the history, world premières, stunning productions, and international successes of 50 years of Dutch National Opera. Within the pages of this strikingly illustrated book, DNO Director Pierre Audi teamed up with prominent designer Irma Boom to combine images from 50 years of productions alongside expert texts that place DNO in the broader perspective of the history of opera in the Netherlands, with special attention paid to the opera building, world premières, highlights, and international significance of DNO in the world of opera. 

The book is published by nai010 publishers and was first released on 6 November, 2015. The first copy was given to Princess Beatrix. End February, 2016, the book will be available in the US. 

About Irma Boom

Irma Boom is a graphic designer specialized in making books. Boom sees her books as containers of thoughts, that communicate ideas and stories. She rose to fame with her ‘Think Book’ (SHV 1996 –1896), a 2,136-page book on which she worked for five years. Of the over 300 books that Boom has designed, 100 are in the permanent collection of the MoMA in New York. Since 1992 she has been a senoir critic at Yale University in the USA, and in 2014 she received the Johannes Vermeer Award.
