From a background in graphic and fashion design, the craftsmanship of Aliki has a strong focus on the medium textile as a communication tool. Over the past 10 years, the Dutch designer/researcher constructed a material database from her main interest in the weather and geology, making her textile work relational to time, place and landscape. Her practice fundaments on an intuitive encounter with the world through fieldwork. Many of her projects originated on or in response to a location, phenomena, natural (re)sources or a specific technique with a strong sense of coloring processes. Her residency at Industry City by WantedDesign will be between January 29 and February 29.
Aliki is an alumni from the Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht. She graduated with a MA in Applied Art at the Sandberg Instituut and a BA in fashion design from the ArtEZ University of Arts.
Her work is acquired by the Cooper Hewitt Design Museum (New York), Zuiderzeemuseum (Enkhuizen), Princessehof (Leeuwarden), Textielmuseum (Tilburg), Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (United Arab Emirates), Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management (The Netherlands) and private collectors.
