Returning for it’s 14th edition, Art Basel’s show in Miami Beach ranks as the premier art show of the US, with 50% of the galleries having exhibition spaces in the region. Tom Postma, who designed also Art Basel Honk Kong and many other fairs, designed Art Basel Miami Beach.
This year’s Art Basel Miami Beach fair will once again be designed by Tom Postma Design,
an Amsterdam based international architecture and design practice specializing in designing high-end temporary and permanent interiors for cultural institutions, art fairs, events, art and design related exhibitions, galleries, shops and private residences.
Tom Postma Design was founded in 1998 by artist Tom Postma. He is renowned for his longstanding designs for venerable art fairs, such as TEFAF (The European Fine Art Fair) in Maastricht, the Netherlands, Art Basel Miami Beach, USA and Art Basel Hong Kong, China.
Among his other accomplishments are the design of the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament, one of the most prestigious sporting events in the Netherlands, various international shops such as that of renowned gallerist Jorge Welsh in London and the design of the Dr. Mansour Art Center in Khartoum, Sudan. Tom Postma says to be honored to have been commissioned by Dr. Mansour Khalid, Sudanese diplomat, thinker, political activist, writer, Law Professor and former Sudanese Foreign Minister, for the design of a spacious Art Center that accommodates an exhibition space, presentation room, library, restaurant and provides a platform for exchange, reflection and discussion.
Postma has designed many exhibitions in prominent museums such as Treasures of the Kremlin, Staatliche kunstsammlungen, Dresden (2013), Bibliothèque de Genève: Affiches Art Nouveau, special exhibition Salon des Antiquaires, Lausanne (2014) and TEFAF’s 2015 special exhibition Night Fishing, a curated show of work by postmodern and contemporary artists designed to complement the TEFAF modern section. In 2016 Tom Postma will, like the previous years, design the exhibition “Prospects & Concepts”, a group exhibition of thirteen young talented artists supported and presented by the Mondriaan Fund during Art Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
