Bert Teunissen in group exhibition Imaging Eden

Bert Teunissen was commissioned by the Norton Museum in Palm Beach(US) to participate at the exhibition “Imaging Eden” and to make photographs in the Everglades in Florida. These photos are now on show in the Norton Museum until July 12, 2015.

Photography has played an important role in the construction of the myth and reality of the Everglades. Imaging Eden presents an overview of the medium’s historic complicity as silent witness, pre-meditated booster, and passionate advocate of this unique environment, and also showcases commissioned work by five international contemporary artists, including Gerald Slota (USA), Jungjin Lee (Korea), Bert Teunissen (the Netherlands) and Jim Goldberg and Jordan Stein (USA), whose practice is photo-based. Each artist will be asked to respond to and expand beyond the physical, ideological, and aesthetic boundaries of the Everglades in their own, unique way. The exhibition will provide fertile ground for future conversations about one of the most unique, contested, and vital landscapes on the planet.

Bert Teunissen has worked as an independent commercial photographer since 1986 for such clients as G-Star, USPS, Heineken, Randstad, John West, ING Bank, Fortis, Bavaria, Goldman Sachs, KLM, Page d’Or, Philips, Citroën, Schweizerische Bundes Bahn SBB, W Magazine, and AHOLD.

He has been working since 1996 on the series “Domestic Landscapes: Western Europe”; the book Domestic Landscapes was published by Aperture in 2007. His exhibitions have traveled the world and Domestic Landscapes won PDN’s Photography Annual Award (4th) and 3rd place in the Book Award of Prix de la Photographie, Paris (PX3) in 2008.
