About Cappella Pratensis

Cappella Pratensis was founded in 1987 and is under the artistic direction of singer and conductor, Stratton Bull. The ensemble is specialized in the polyphonic music of Josquin Desprez and other composers from the 15th and 16th century. The ensemble combines the traditional manner of performance with its own inventive programs and interpretations that are based on scientific research and artistic assumptions. During their performance, as was common in the time of Josquin Desprez, Cappella Pratensis stand around a central music stand. The ensemble sing songs from copies of original 15th and 16th century choir books.

The event at Corpus Christi Church includes a pre-concert lecture at 3pm: Music for the Star of the Sea: Josquin in Renaissance Rome, presented by M. Jennifer Bloxam, Herbert H. Lehman Professor of Music, Williams College.
