“De Kus / The Kiss,” by Ger Thijs, has its US premiere on October 9, 2015 and is presented by Upstream Theater.
In this theater production, two troubled souls cross paths: an apprehensive housewife and a disillusioned comedian. This chance encounter leads both to reflect on their lives as they have been, as they are, and as they might be. Can their worlds be changed by a kiss?
The English production of “De Kus / The Kiss” was translated by Paul Evans and directed by Kenn McLaughlin who had the following to say about it:
“For me The Kiss is about the accumulation of choices that make up a person’s life at any given moment – the roads taken and the roads not taken. It explores the collision of fantasy and fate and it asks its questions through two people in the middle of life, a time when the promise of the future can be shadowed by regrets of the past. It is a play filled with hope and longing that follows two strangers – one man and one woman – who come to deeply value their lives through a brief and inspiring walk together in the woods. And of course, the power of one very meaningful and very intimate kiss!”
