NYC Jewelry Week has invited Dutch-Kenyan designer Sabina Schreurs to present five new pieces from her new Disconnections collection. The exhibition will be on view at the Steuben Gallery at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn.
Disconnections is a collection deeply rooted in the theme of epilepsy and the designer’s personal experiences with it. Through this work, she aims to convey the complex and multifaceted emotions that have accompanied her journey. Each piece is crafted to encapsulate both the struggles and the resilience of living with this condition, shedding light on the reality of life with epilepsy.
On Saturday, November 23rd, 1:00 PM, Sabina Schreurs will also participate in Chatting – Artists in a Social Sphere: A conversation between artists Maisie Broadhead, Lucie Gledhill & Sabina Schreurs, moderated by Roxanne Simone.
Since her years at the art academy, Sabina Schreurs started experimenting a lot in different techniques and with different materials, while it was also always important for her to design for a specific target group and often about a social theme. So for Sabina it was not just about designing beautiful things but also a product with a clear purpose and function. By experimenting a lot in colors, shapes and materials she tries to come up with new shapes and objects. In this way, she hopes, by combining design and a social topic, to create an innovative product that can add value in our society.
