Dutch Art and Culture Set to Highlight January 2 ‘Phillips after 5’ Event

Dutch art and culture will stand in the spotlight on Jan. 2 during the “Phillips after 5” series at The Phillips Collection in Washington, D.C.

The event, called “Dutch Discoveries,” coincides with The Phillips Collection’s exhibition, “Van Gogh Repetitions,” which runs through Feb. 2, 2014.

The schedule for “Dutch Discoveries” follows:

• 5:30 to 8 p.m.: Music by New York-based Dutch DJ Marvin Piqué, who is known for his improvisation and his experimental search for deeper connection in sound, and screenings of “Dutch Influence,” a documentary about the global success of the Dutch dance scene.
• 6:15 and 7:15 p.m.: Language Lessons. An instructor from the Bethesda Dutch School will conduct introductory-level Dutch language lessons with basic greetings and artistic vocabulary.
• 6:30 and 7:30 p.m.: Film Screenings. Three short films by Dutch directors will play: “A Curious Conjunction of Coincidences,” “Audition,” and “Life Is Beautiful #1: The Child Is Father of the Man.”
• 6, 6:30, 7 and 7:30 p.m.: Spotlight Talk. Fifteen-minute discussions about the art of Vincent van Gogh.

Reservations are strongly advised for this popular event. Tickets cost $12 for adults; $10 for students and seniors 62 and older. Museum members are admitted free, no reservation needed.
