Dutch Dancers to Perform at NYC Battery Dance Festival

_I_n August, it is time for the annual Battery Dance Festival, New York City’s longest-running free public dance festival. Each year, 12,000 people flock to Battery Park for seven evenings full of performances and workshops by U.S. and international dancers and choreographers. This year, Dutch dancer and choreographer Emma Evelein, and Reuel Rogers from the Dutch Caribbean island of Curaçao will perform at the festival. For Reuel Rogers, this will be his U.S. debut.

About Emma Evelein

In 2015, Emma Evelein graduated at the School of Arts Amsterdam in urban/contemporary dance and music-theatre. She danced in European and Israeli companies like Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company and Fresco Dance Company, as well as participated in projects with choreographers like Emanuel Gat and classes with Batsheva Dance Company. She is fond of the combination of film and dance and has choreographed cinema films and videoclips for Dutch and international artists. “White rooms” (Factor B) won the International Music Video Underground award (Los Angeles). “Sisters” (EYE film museum Amsterdam) won both the TopKapi Fiction Prize (Berlin) and the Eye Audience Choice Award (Amsterdam).

About Reuel Rogers

Born on the Dutch Caribbean island of Curaçao, Reuel Rogers, also known as, B-Boy Crunk, started his life in the performing arts as a gymnast. After he found his passion in dance, he trained as a dancer at CODARTS Rotterdam in hip hop and break dance as well as various other styles such as modern, jazz, ballet, kizomba, and tango.
