Dutch drummer Lucas van Merwijk hits Los Angeles on the 28th of September

Lucas van Merwijk will be performing in Los Angeles on the 28th of september with the CSULA Afro-Latin Jazz Ensemble. The concert is the final event of the Summer Sundays Concert Series at the MOLAA (Museum of Latin American Art).

Celebrate the music of the Cuban icon Benny More with Dutch percussionist Lucas Van Merwijk and Cuban Master percussionist Calixto Oviedo. The performance features the CSULA (Cal State University Los Angeles) Afro-Latin Jazz Ensemble. This 25-piece orchestra will evoke the nostalgia of the big band era, while paying homage to one of Cuba’s celebrated bandleaders, Benny More.

Lucas van Merwijk is a Dutch drummer, percussionist and bandleader who has been at the forefront of the European jazz, latin and percussion scene for 25 years. He was elected ‘Best Jazz drummer’ in the Benelux countries by the readers of De Slagwerkkrant many times between the years running years 1993 and 2013.
