Northside Festival will celebrate centuries of Dutch culture this year with a large cross-disciplinary presence, showcasing the country’s global creative alliances through art, technology, design and music.
The Dutch historical contributions to innovation – ranging from compact discs to Bluetooth and WiFi – have consistently made the Netherlands a hotbed for entrepreneurship and creative advancement. The national policies and programs that support innovation, collaboration, risk, and technological exploration will be evident in their impressive presence at Northside’s Innovation and Music programming this year.
“We’re thrilled to highlight some of our country’s most exciting innovators and game-changing creatives at Northside 2015,” said Jan Kennis, Cultural Attache from the Netherlands to the US . “The Netherlands will be represented through a large group of over 25 innovative startups, designers, musicians, artists and filmmakers present at Northside Festival alongside Amsterdam Deputy Mayor Kajsa Ollongren.”
“With this year marking the Netherlands’ second year of participation at Northside, founders and artists from a wide array of disciplines will descend upon Williamsburg to spotlight Dutch culture” said Scott Stedman, Co-Founder of Northside Media Group. “We’re psyched to have the Dutch on board again this year as they truly represent the international fabric of this incredible creative gathering.”
Dutch speakers during Northside Innovation include Neelie Kroes, Netherlands’ Special Startup Envoy and design-savvy entrepreneurs ByBorre, Karma, IJsfontijn, LAVA Lab and RotterZwam. Music will be provided by Jacco Gardner and Sevdaliza as well as Dutch DJ’s Morello Twins. Visit the Dutch at the EXPO during Northside Innovation and throughout the weekend, and see Amsterdam based graffiti artist Niels Shoe Meulman in action during Williamsburg Walks at the most trafficked strip in Williamsburg.
Attendees are encouraged to meet them at one of the panel discussions on June 11 and 12 or join them and interact with their inventions at the Northside Dutch Innovation Showcase alongside other succesful NY-based Dutch startups 3Dhubs, Rocki, VANMOOF and another 9 Dutch startups such as: WeMakeVR, Konnektid, Eviate, MADS, Looklive, Leviy, Ilost, Yippie, Printr and the Deputy Mayor of Amsterdam. All Northside Innovation badgeholders are welcome with RSVP.
Also present to provide entertainment for attendees throughout the festival will be visiting artists Jacco Gardner and Sevdaliza, who will be performing at several venues including Rough Trade as well as a special Northside International Music Night on Friday night June 12! Followed by a DJ night with electronic dance music from the Dutch underground scene. The festival will also feature Sample Not For Sale by Guerrilla filmmaker Mike Redman, which takes an in depth look at the sampling culture. Redman used unorthodox means to speak to legendary artists and created an uncompromising film that focuses on the creative aspect of this art.

At Northside there’s a stage available for artists and thought-leaders at all different points in their creative life-cycle.
What started as a pipedream in 2009 by booking hundreds of emerging bands we loved has grown into an annual adventure of discovery that now includes innovators, creators and filmmakers.
Now in its seventh year, Northside is a discovery festival founded by Northside Media Group, taking place in North Brooklyn. Programming is broken into three major components over the course of a week: Music, Innovation and Film.
The Film portion kicks things off on June 8-10, Innovation swings into action on June 11-12, and Music carries us out on June 11-14.

Northside takes place in pretty much every venue, concert space and screening room in the Williamsburg and Greenpoint neighborhoods of Brooklyn, which makes bopping/walking/running/biking around from event to event nice and easy, at least by New York standards. That’s by design. At the hub of the action is McCarren Park, our festival headquarters. Here you’ll pick up your badge/wristband (more on that later), check out free shows, browse the Innovation Expo, drink some complimentary beverages, and take a few choice Instagram pics.
