FEBRIK collection at Colony during NYCxDESIGN

FEBRIK collection at Colony during NYCxDESIGN, from May 11-25 2017

Thu, May 11 - Thu, May 25  2017

FEBRIK is presented at two events during NYCxDESIGN this month: UM Project (11-25 May) and COLONY (18-24 May).

ULTRAFRAME BY UM PROJECT WITH FEBRIK PRESENTED BY COLONY CONSULT

11-25 May

Exploring structure and enveloping forms, Colony Consult presents an exhibit to mark designer François Chambard’s return to NYCxDESIGN after a two-year hiatus. The groundbreaking collection will feature unconventional armoires, cabinets and credenzas with an otherworldly existence. Showcased with the dimensional textiles of FEBRIK, Ultraframe will celebrate the juxtaposition of contrasting elements: hard vs. soft, internal vs. external and 2D vs. 3D.

LIGHTNESS: THE FULL SPECTRUM

18-24 May

A bold experimentation on lightness, the immersive exhibit will explore what “light” is, in all its forms and meanings. The work showcased in Lightness: the full spectrum will be grounded in design, while exploring spatial, experiential, literary and social interpretations of the exhibit theme.

In a departure from previous years, and due to the delicate nature of the show installation, Colony will be holding staggered viewings throughout the duration of the exhibit.

About FEBRIK

Febrik’s collection of knitted textiles commenced in 2008 under the name Innofa stretch textiles. After several years of international growth Renee Merckx and Jos Pelders continued the successful enterprise under the name Febrik. Known for its versatile collection, innovative approach and collaborative attitude, Febrik creates distinguishing textiles that can be brought into play in the whole gamut of interiors – from domestic use to contract environments.

Three-dimensional structure and stretch are two common threads throughout the entire collection; the latter being a quality intrinsic to the process of knitting. Colour is another benchmark, with matching colour combinations between different designs. Another option is combining distinctive fabrics in the same hue within one design. Versatility is key, with possibilities stretching beyond upholstering.

By putting knitted textiles on the designer map, Febrik aims to serve those who dream today and shape our tomorrow. Doing so by creating interior textiles that allow furniture brands to differentiate from the competition, designers to push the limits of product design and architects to enrich the interiors they fashion.

About UM Project

UM Project designs furniture and unusual goods. Integrating concept, design and manufacturing, the work transcends the qualities of both the handmade and the mass-produced. Rather than utilizing complex processes and transformation, designs rely on the unusual combination and connections of simple forms, honest materials and distinct colors. The result is work that is essential and precise, purposeful and functional, surprising yet familiar, sometimes playful, always inviting. UM is independent and collaborative, the design equivalent of an indie band.

About Colony
