Writer and director Urszula Antoniak was inspired for this film by the pandemic and her own personal grief to craft this minimalist sci-fi thriller. After escaping an unknown catastrophe, lovers Anna and Hannah arrive on a desolate island and take refuge in an abandoned house, where Anna can care for the fragile Hannah, as a mysterious drone hovers above them. When a stranger arrives on the beach, their bitter fate is revealed. With stunning, sparse visuals and dread-soaked mystery, ‘Splendid Isolation’ is a Bergmanesque ode to love, humanity, and grief.
The Chicago European Union Film Festival is a celebration of emerging voices and a showcase of provocative perspectives from across the European Union.
