The film Under Water screens at the Austin Film Festival on October 29 and November 1st. The screenings include a Q&A with directors Edgar Kapp and Kuba Szutkowski.

About Under Water
Ever since Foekje found out that her husband is having an affair, she has been living in a hotel she cannot afford. In need of money, she and now ex-husband Evert plan to have her mother sign over her childhood home to the government for compensation. Foekje’s mother Nel, a doomsday prepper, realizes what her daughter is up to and locks them up in a barricaded bunker. At the mercy of her mother once again, the past resurfaces and as tensions mount. Foekje decides to finally confront her mother and that’s when things go wrong.

 

About the Directors
KUBA SZUTKOWSKI (1982, Warsaw, Poland) moved to the Netherlands at the age of six. Here, he studied Psychology and Philosophy before graduating from the Willem de Kooning Art Academy as an audiovisual designer. In 2009 he co-started the production company Popov Film with the celebrated actor Dragan Bakema. Since 2015 he has co-directed several shorts with Edgar Kapp like Spark and Hitchcock Hitchcock. Kuba works and lives in Rotterdam.

EDGAR KAPP (1965, Amersfoort, The Netherlands) is a director and line producer. Together with Kuba Szutkowski he made the short films Spark and Hitchcock Hitchcock. These shorts have been screened around the world at 50+ festivals. From IFFR (voices) to New Filmmakers Los Angeles. Edgar works and lives in Rotterdam.
