Dutch architecture has become a worldwide industry, with buildings designed and developed in Europe, North America and Asia. An extensive variety of Dutch architects is represented in this exhibition: from the famous Nieuwe Bouwen (Dutch Modernism) architects Brinkman & Van der Vlugt to contemporary architects such as Rem Koolhaas / OMA, Benthem Crouwel Architects, MVRDV and UNStudio / Ben van Berkel. International architects, like Tadao Ando and SANAA, are also featured in the show.
Together these photographers embody sixty years of Dutch architectural photography. This provides a unique image of time and the special observation of four different photographers, capturing the development of the urban and architectural landscape.
Photographer Jan Versnel (1924-2007), the most important architectural photographer of his generation, is known for his immaculate architecture, interior and product photos. Contemporary architectural photographers see him as the pioneer of Dutch architectural photography and still consider his work as a huge inspiration for their discipline.
Jannes Linders (1955), whose photography master was Jan Versnel, is known for his cool and functional registrations of the Nieuwe Bouwen movement by architects Brinkman & Van der Vlugt and more contemporary architecture by Benthem Crouwel Architects from Amsterdam.
The work of Dutch photographer Iwan Baan (1975) is characterized by the portrayal of people in the architecture, the context, society and environment around architecture. He collaborates with the world’s foremost architects, photographing institutional, public and private projects by Rem Koolhaas / OMA, Herzog & de Meuron, SANAA, Morphosis, Frank Gehry, Toyo Ito, Steven Holl, Diller Scofidio + Renfro, Zaha Hadid, and young architects like Sou Fujimoto, SO-IL and Selgas Cano.
Ossip van Duivenbode (1981) studied History of Architecture. He works as a photographer since 2010. His clients are architectural firms (OMA / Rem Koolhaas, MVRDV) publishers and cultural institutions. His work has appeared in many books, magazines and (online) design and architecture platforms like Dezeen. Ossip researches the influence of a building on its surroundings. What are the interesting details and how do they relate to the people? Ossip’s hometown of Rotterdam strongly features in his work.
