At The Netherland Club of New York saxophonist/composer Marike van Dijk will perform an hour long program with contemporary classical music alternated with jazzy grooves and improvisation. All compositions were inspired by images and music van Dijk experienced throughout her childhood in Frysland as wel as city life in New York: spacious views of fields, forest and lakes and on the other hand the ever changing but non-stop energy in New York city. Van Dijk’s highly narrative style of composing is best described as ‘film music without film’. For the full list of names of her international ensemble, please click on this link
Marike van Dijk was awarded a full scholarship by the Dutch Huygens Talent Scholarship Program to pursue a master’s degree at NYU, from which she graduated last May. As a final project for her master’s degree, she wrote her first compositions for large jazz ensemble with string quartet, which were performed during her graduation recital.
Tuesday, 12 November, 7pm – 8:30pm
This is a free event for members of The Netherland Club and other guests pay $10 in cash at the door.
