The North American premiere of KINGS…COME HOME takes the stage at the iconic Apollo Theater in New York. This compelling theatrical production, a collaboration between National Black Theatre and Kip Republic, is co-directed by Dutch theatermakers Ira Kip and Winston ‘Winnie’ Bergwijn, exploring themes of migration, resilience, and the search for home.
KINGS…COME HOME follows a family’s journey as they leave their homeland in pursuit of opportunity, safety, and belonging. When they discover a house in the middle of a field, it seems like their search has ended until the walls begin to shift, and the home they built starts to unravel. The play raises urgent questions about how constant displacement reshapes identity and reality, weaving together narratives of colonial history, climate change and war.
This production highlights cross-cultural storytelling, featuring the work of Dutch theater artists. Audiences will be immersed in a visually and emotionally powerful experience, as the production combines poetic storytelling, striking visuals, and performances to explore what it means to truly belong.
