Lecture Works That Work publisher Peter Bil’ak at D-Crit
Tuesday April 1, Dutch designer Peter Bil’ak gives a lecture about his new magazine “Works That Work, Making Magazines Today” at D-Crit, New York.

As part of the SVA MFA Design Criticism Spring Lecture Series, Dutch designer and Works that Work publisher Peter Bil’ak talks about the experience of starting a new magazine at a time when many printed periodicals are disappearing. The lecture will take place on Tuesday April 1 at 6.30-8.30pm and is followed by lively Q&A sessions, led by current D-Crit students, and refreshments in the D-Crit Reading Room.
A year ago, Peter Bil’ak started Works That Work, a new magazine devoted to creativity. This bi-annual features in-depth essays and stories on subjects connected with design, and is an international showcase of unexpected creativity that improves our lives. Bil’ak will share his experience of starting a new magazine at a time when many printed periodicals are disappearing. He will also discuss the business models for publishing periodicals, and how they affect the editorial decisions.

About Peter Bil’ak
Biľak was born in Czechoslovakia and lives in the Netherlands. He works in the field of editorial, graphic, and type design, teaches at the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague. Bil’ak also started Typotheque in 1999, Dot Dot Dot in 2000, Indian Type Foundry in 2009, and Works That Work magazine in 2012.
