Louis Andriessen’s “De Materie” (“Matter) will have its West-Coast premiere during the Minimalist Jukebox Festival and will be performed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. This piece will be conducted by Reinbert de Leeuw and “The Crossing” and performed by artists including Susan Naruck, Marlies Heuer, Meow Meow, Alex Richardson and The Crossing ensemble.

“De Materie” is an extraordinary four-part vocal/instrumental work, that incorporates eclectic musical influences ranging from Bach to boogie-woogie, all in Andriessen’s unique style. Composed during 1984-88 by Andriessen, Europe’s leading Minimalist, this rarely performed four-part quasi-opera displays his driven, intense, in-your-face, rock-influenced, edgy, and sonically unique style. Andriessen strongly influenced New York’s Bang On A Can, including founders Michael Gordon, David Lang and Julia Wolfe.
