The Marina Abramovic Institute and TodaysArt present the US premiere of “The Mutual Wave Machine” by Suzanne Dikker and Matthias Oostrik with Peter Burr, Matthew Patterson Curry, Diederik Schoorl, Oliver Hess and Roy Kesrouani during the first edition of Silicon Valley Contemporary April 10-13, 2014. 

The Mutual Wave Machine is an important art installation incorporating technology and science. The Mutual Wave Machine is an interactive neurofeedback installation, that embodies the elusive notion of ‘being on the same wavelength’ with another person through brainwave synchronization. During the experience, greater brainwave synchronization is reflected in greater vividness and more coherent and recognizable audiovisual patterns, while lack of synchronization strays towards dark audio-visual chaos: a faint ringing in the ears and static in the retinas. Enclosed by an intimate capsule and immersed in an audiovisual environment that responds and reflects their shared brain activity, two visitors can directly experience and manipulate their internal efforts to approach each other, or distance themselves from each other.

TodaysArt

TodaysArt is a platform organization that revolves around the presentation and development of adventurous and contemporary visual arts and performing arts in the urban environment. Since 2005, TodaysArt has brought local and 
international artists, thinkers and audiences together worldwide. TodaysArt is a stage for international talent and pioneers who explore the possibilities of new and often controversial forms of expression.

TodaysArt has built up an impressive international profile over the past seven years by presenting and producing works that are developed through direct and intensive relationships with some of today’s leading artists. A hub member of International Cities of Advanced Sound and related arts (ICAS) – an international network of independent festivals – TodaysArt is consistently involved in international collaborations, by sending Dutch artists to creative centres across the globe and bringing international pioneering and/or talented artists to local audiences.

The Marina Abramovic Institute

MAI is a platform for immaterial art and long durational work, including that of performance art, dance, theater, film, music, opera, and other forms that may develop in the future. MAI will foster collaboration among emerging and established individuals working in the humanities, arts, sciences, and technology.

MAI Hudson is a building located in Hudson, New York that is being re-designed by The Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA). Once renovated, this building will be the home of MAI, providing a space for long durational works, interdisciplinary collaboration, educational programming, and the Abramovic Method.

Currently, MAI acts as an immaterial institute, hosting live events at partner venues, presenting collaborative projects, and educating the public about long durational works through its digital platforms.
