_O_ctober 4, the Dutch Matangi Quartet will perform in Carnegie Hall together with singer-songwriter Lori Lieberman. The quartet, consisting of Daniel Torrico Menacho (violin), Maria-Paula Majoor (violin), Karsten Kleijer (viola, and Arno van der Vuurst (cello), was founded in 1999. In 2010, they accompanied Lori Lieberman during her shows in the Royal Theatre Carré in Amsterdam. They are now continuing the musical bond formed in Amsterdam with the presentation of new music in Carnegie’s Zankel Hall. On the program will be compositions from the new album “Lori Lieberman and the Matangi Quartet” as well as selections from Lieberman’s 19 albums, including the song Killing Me Softly. The album also includes a song by Dutch songwriter Daniël Lohues, arranged by Reinout Douma.
Tickets are on sale via Carnegie Hall.
“The Girl and the Cat” is from Lori Lieberman’s forthcoming album, featuring the renown Matangi Quartet from the Netherlands. Written by Lieberman, with strings orchestrated by Lori Lieberman and Stefanie Fife, the song is about a mother’s struggles to come to terms with her daughter’s choices. The album is a cross-genre, unique collaboration with the renowned Dutch, Matangi Quartet, who have been awarded many times over for their albums and concerts, and known for their performance for the Queen of the Netherlands. Lieberman not only composed the songs but co-wrote the string arrangements for them. The album was recorded in Los Angeles and Amsterdam, engineered by Joseph Cali, and mixed by the legendary Bob Clearmountain (Rolling Stones, Springsteen, David Bowie).
After the concert in Carnegie Hall, Lori Lieberman and the Matangi Quartet will tour the Netherlands:
