The Seattle Chamber Players (SCP) is a contemporary music ensemble, who is committed to programming and presenting the best music of our time, from well-known leaders in the field to the most promising younger voices. SCP pushes the boundaries of genre and convention with a two-day celebration of high tech music-making, ‘Icebreaker VII: Open Source’. Underlining an exciting, coherent and complex dialogue between film, electronics and live music, ‘Open Source’ seeks to embrace audiences in a single continuum of total perception through performance art that embodies unprecedented technological advances. Live music, text, and multimedia fuse into boundary-breaking aesthetic forms, featuring cutting-edge visual imagery and a vast array of computer technologies.

Michel van der Aa’s ‘Up-Close‘ will be performed on the second day of ‘Icebreaker VII: Open Source’, by the award-winning cellist Julie Albers. ‘Up-Close’ shows a hair-raising interaction in which a mysterious film mirrors a dramatic live performance. Michel van der Aa (1970) is a truly multidisciplinary figure in contemporary music. A unique voice, he combines composition with film and stage direction, and script writing. Classical instruments, voices, electronic sound, actors, theatre and video are all seamless extensions of his musical vocabulary.
