Sales of the Spring/Summer 2018 Women’s Knitwear Collection of Nanna van Blaaderen are live at Moda Operandi’s Trunkshow. The Collection is available for pre-order until November 20th, 2017.
Nanna van Blaaderen is a Dutch designer, art director and design consultant based in the Netherlands. She is specialized in knitwear, women’s wear and textile design. in 2009, she founded her design and consultancy studio Nanna van Blaaderen, specialized in luxury women’s wear and home textiles. Her designs fuse crafts and innovation, with the intention to create sophisticated, high-quality fabrics and knitwear. Besides her pioneering in design Nanna van Blaaderen is responsible for all the visual content of her studio. With more than 5 years of experience in art direction, visual branding and campaign shoot with talented photographers, she knows how to tell a story through image.
During her studies at the Willem de Kooning Academy Nanna majored in fashion-forecast and knit design. After graduation, she continued to research and explore these disciplines. Fascinated by the innovative potential of knit design, and its infinite possibilities, she has been developing new techniques, fabrics, and knitwear ever since.
Nanna has a long-standing relationship with the Dutch textile industry and design institutes such as Textile-lab. She has worked with companies such as Maison Martin Margiela, Trend Union, Studio Edelkoort, Mohawk, and The Woolmark Company.
In 2015, Nanna won the European International Woolmark Prize. In February 2016, she had the honor of representing Europe in the world finals of the Woolmark Prize at New York Fashion Week. Nanna’s work has been shown in various international shows and events, among others at Institut Neerlandais in Paris and MoMu in Antwerp. Her designs have been featured in high-end international media such as Vogue, Bloom and Wall Paper.
Nanna van Blaaderen’s fabrics and women’s wear were born from a desire to integrate ethics and aesthetics in design. Starting with innovation in fabrics, Studio Nanna van Blaaderen has been expanded with several collections in home textiles and women’s wear. Through local production, using naturally renewable and bio-degradable materials like merino wool, and with the development of natural alternatives to fur, Nanna tries to minimize the studio’s footprint where possible.
The collections by Nanna van Blaaderen, dominated by luxury knitwear, are comfortable without compromising elegance. Products are crafted from the finest natural materials, gentle for skin and nature, lightweight and flexible.
Research and experimentation are crucial in Nanna’s design process, Throughout the last 8 years, she has been working closely with hand knitters and knitting manufacturers, to explore the interaction between traditional hand knitting, industrial knitting, and materials.
Nanna has created a wide selection fabrics and knitting concepts and has a solid base of techniques to build upon. With her experience in women’s wear, she understands today’s woman and knows how to translate this into the design.
