Friday June 13, 7-9pm NOOR will be holding a PechaKucha at the SVA Theater in Chelsea, New York.
NOOR’s 7th Annual General Meeting will be held this year in New York City from June 9 to 13. This is a unique occasion when all the NOOR members, usually dispersed across the world, come together. At the Annual General Meeting, NOOR photographers and staff evaluate agency and foundation activities, and plan how to continue NOOR’s mission in coming years.
This year, they organized a special public event on Friday June 13, 7-9pm for people to come meet NOOR in New York. Please join us for a NOOR PechaKucha evening. With presentations from our photographers, the event will showcase NOOR’s dedication to explore the human side of complex, global issues, as well as long-term and collaborative projects.
PechaKucha is a dynamic presentation format in which presenters show 20 slides, each for 20 seconds. The images advance automatically and the presenter talks along with the images. PechaKucha nights are inspiring events now taking place in more than 700 cities around the world.
NOOR is a collective uniting a select group of highly accomplished photojournalists and documentary storytellers focusing on contemporary global issues. Since its establishment in 2007, as both a photo agency and foundation, the international roster of NOOR’s accomplished and award-winning member photographers have documented civil and political unrest, environmental issues, war, famine, and natural disasters throughout the globe. It is an abiding commitment to the fundamental power of photography to bear witness to the struggle for human rights and social justice that form the principles of NOOR.
NOOR – an Arabic word meaning light – seeks to contribute to a growing understanding of the world by producing independent visual reports that stimulate positive social change and impact views on issues of global concern.
During the NOOR Pecha Kucha the NOOR members will show and talk about work from ongoing conflicts and crisis, such as Syria and Ukraine, and raise the debate about issues like modern day slavery, religious conflicts, sea level rise and the global food system being out of balance.
For the organization of the event NOOR is working closely with Manuel Toscano (from ZAGO) who holds the Pecha Kucha license. Manuel, together with NOOR he will prepare a ‘save the date’ email to be send out later this week to the larger creative and photography industry in New York.
The NOOR Pecha Kucha is scheduled to take place in SVA Theater in Chelsea on Friday 13 June. The venue hosts around 300 guests. Admission is 5 dollars and they expect to be sold out.
