Red Hook Labs Gallery is pleased to announce the third edition of Labs New Artists exhibition, opening on July 11, 2019. This annual summer group show will feature work by twenty-five emerging, international photographers, unrepresented by a gallery or an agency, and selected from Red Hook Labs’ open call by a jury of industry leaders. Every year, Red Hook Labs invites emerging photographers to submit their work to an Open Call in order to scout extraordinary, diverse and visionary talent from all over the world. Selected artists gain industry recognition, career opportunities and international exposure through an intensive program following the show. To give the selected artists continued support, each of our jurors agrees to mentor one of the artists for the year following the show, and one artist will be chosen by the creative team at Dazed Magazine to shoot an editorial for their F/W issue. The Dutch photographers featured are Dustin Thierry, Jan Hoek , Renate Ariadne van der Togt and Olya Oleinic.

After the opening in New York, Labs New Artists III will travel to Oslo and Milan. Red Hook Labs is dedicated to supporting and furthering the careers of this impressive group of emerging artists. Last year’s exhibition included Tyler Mitchell, who was subsequently commissioned by jury member Raul Martinez to photograph Beyoncé for the September 2018 cover of American Vogue; Chase Middleton, who was commissioned by Gucci Beauty to photograph their web fragrance campaign; and Chris Smith, who has been featured in Dazed, NY Mag, and W, and has collaborated with Marni and Another Magazine to create images in his signature style. This year, Labs New Artists III continues to present deeply personal and provocative bodies of work and a range of photographic styles and techniques. The work is largely character-driven, narrative, and wildly creative, representing a cross-section of the aesthetic currents moving through the photographic world today.

The Labs New Artists exhibition extends our mission of giving opportunities to and supporting emerging artists and local youth through our print sales program. All proceeds from sales are split 50/50 between the Artists and Labs, with all Labs profits going to benefit the Red Hook Labs Education and Jobs Initiative 501(c)3, a non-profit that provides free photographic programming, education, and career opportunities to local youth through Labs’ community programs. Additional programming, including panel discussions with jurors, artists and collectors, will take place on Saturday, July 13th and Saturday, July 20th, at Red Hook Labs.
