Wed, Oct 21 - Wed, Oct 21  2015

On Wednesday October 21, at 6:30 PM, Prof. Dr. Reinier Baarsen, Senior Curator of Furniture at Amsterdam’s Rijksmuseum, gives a lecture on the art of marquetry at the Cooper Hewitt as part of the Morse Historic Design Lecture Series. In the late seventeenth century the view on the use of certain objects changed; no longer were cabinets seen just as practical containers for storage or transportation, they were also considered decorative items of splendor that could enhance a room and hint at the valuable contents inside. In his lecture Dr. Baarsen takes examples from the Cooper Hewitt collection to show how cabinet-makers across Europe collaborated and innovated.
