Starting on September 29, the Metrograph will screen several films for four weekends in honor of Dutch cinematographer Robby Müller. The full Robby Müller: Remain in Light program can be found on their website.
His active career spanning from the glory days of the New German Cinema to the dawn of the digital cinematography era, the versatile, brilliant Dutch cinematographer Robby Müller showed himself capable of doing just about anything with a camera—anything, that is, but produce an indifferent image. This program displays the full range of a prodigious, painterly talent whose genius for delineating character and enchanting landscape remained constants through his long collaboration with Wim Wenders, his American outings with Peter Bogdanovich, William Friedkin, Alex Cox, and Jim Jarmusch, and his late experiments in expressionistic digital smear with Lars von Trier and Michael Winterbottom.
