Visit New Pacif Studio residents Ruth Taylor and Auke de Vries at the open studio in Vallejo, CA on July 26.
After graduating from art school in the Netherlands, animation artists Auke de Vries and Ruth Taylor started working commercially right away. But they wanted to find a way to spend more time on their personal artwork.
So they decided to start saving to enable them to go on a trip around the world, moving from one artist residency to another. Last week they arrived at New Pacific Studio Vallejo for a two week stay- it’s # 5 on their trip. Starting from the Netherlands, they have been travelling for five months, visiting and working in Thailand, Malaysia, Australia and New Zealand.
In each place they draw, take photos, and compile a written record, posting on Facebook under Animated Trip. Some of their impressions so far – supermarkets are full of DOUBLE SIZE products! Soft cookies are DISGUSTING! The light is very different. ‘We see a lot of things we’ve already seen in films and series, but seeing them in the right context makes a lot more sense.’
Everyone is invited to drop into New Pacific Studio Vallejo between 3 and 6pm this Sunday July 26 at our next Open Studio to meet current artists in residence Ruth Taylor and Auke de Vries. 321 Nevada St., Vallejo CA 94590. 707 563 5166.
