The Fields Sculpture Park 2017 Summer Exhibition Featuring Works by André Kruysen

Ghent, New York – A 12-foot tall whitetail deer, four large-scale ceramic sculptures totaling 12-tons of clay, and a sweeping window mural drawn over a 10-day live performance are among the new works being inaugurated in The Fields Sculpture Park Art Omi celebrates the opening of its 2017 Summer Exhibition. The opening will be held Saturday, May 27 from 1-4:30 PM in The Fields Sculpture Park and Charles B. Benenson Visitors Center. Admission is free.

In The Fields Sculpture Park, new sculptures will be on view by Tony Tasset, Tom Burr, Angela Bulloch and Matt Wedel. In the gallery will be a site-specific installation by Andre Kruysen, shown with drawings by Joan Banach in an exhibition curated by 2016 Fields Artist Folkert de Jong. In addition, Gosia Wlodarczak will create a large-scale, site-specific drawing on the glass wall of the Visitors Center near the café, over a ten-day live performance.

Dutch artist Andre Kruysen’s work relates to that of daylight and the structure of the architecture around him. The artist creates interventions in areas that affect these aspects. These interventions can result in both detached, and space-merging sculptures.

The artists’ complex and chaotic style of the past few years stems from the increasingly complex (visual) culture in which we live. Finding a personal balance, it finds its’ form in his work. Amidst his spatial interventions, Kruysen seeks stillness; the stillness that occurs through the sacral effect of daylight. This contradiction is the basis of his sculptures. Kruysen will create a site-specific installation in the Art Omi gallery.

Works by André Kruysen have been shown in solo and group exhibitions in institutions and museums throughout the world since 1996, including The Municipal Museum (The Hague, The Netherlands), Casa Sakanoue (Hiyoshi, Japan), Rosalux Gallery (Berlin, Germany), Gallery Leguern (Warsaw, Poland) and more. His works are included in the collections of institutions including the Museum Foundation, Heden, and Bonnefantenmuseum, various private collections and more. The artist has been awarded numerous awards and scholarships throughout his career, and currently, teaches sculpture at the Royal Academy in The Hague, The Netherlands.
