“The Power of Partnership” Conference by the Museum Association of NY

The Museum Association of New York (MANY) has officially opened Early Bird Registration for their 2020 Annual Conference “The Power of Partnership.”

The MANY Annual Conference is the largest gathering for both established and emerging museum professionals in New York State. Concurrent sessions will offer learning experiences for professionals of every discipline and career level. Over 100 presenters from every Regional Economic Development Region in NYS will address issues and offer best practices in the full range of museum practice including fundraising, interpretation, and collections management in 27 concurrent sessions, preconference workshops and Capital Region Capstone Experiences. Presenters will share examples of how organizations fulfill their missions by engaging in partnerships, how partnerships evolve and grow into sustainable relationships between organizations, and how partnerships weave relationships to grow stronger communities. Each session will give participants the chance to listen, share ideas, and shape the future of the field. Attendees will meet with peers in professional, casual, and informal settings to help them build valuable connections for future partnerships.

The 2020 Conference will be hosted in Albany, NY from March 29 to March 31 with special events hosted by historic venues throughout Albany including 90 State Street, The Rotunda at the New York State Education Building, the Corning Tower Observation Deck, and the NYS Museum. Immersive and interactive pre-conference workshops will be offered on Saturday, March 2. Conference goers may reserve rooms at the Hilton Albany with a special conference discount rate.

The 2020 conference will begin at noon on Sunday, March 29 with lunch on the 4th floor of the New York State Museum.

There will be a Museum and Folk Art Forum on Saturday, March 28 at the NYS Museum that will feature demonstrations, performances, and discussions that will explore and strengthen the ways museums, folklorists, and traditional artists can work together to build understanding around the interpretation and presentation of traditional arts and shared informal learning practices.

Tuesday, March 31 activities include Capstones including “Creating a Dutch Colonial Heritage Hudson Valley Tourism Experience” with author, historian, and journalist Russell Shorto who will lead a conversation and brainstorming session on how historic sites can create a new tourism experience centered around Dutch Colonial history at the Albany Institute of History and Art at 1 PM.

Derby Museums (UK) Director of Projects and Programs Hannah Fox will give the conference opening keynote address “Putting the ‘Us’ in Museums.” Weeksville Heritage Center Executive Director Robert Fields will provide the closing keynote address.

Conference registration is now open on the MANY website with discounts available for MANY members, and early bird rates available now until February 18, 2020. Registration closes March 21.
