The current exhibition in the Morgen Library & Museum – Drawn to Greatness: Master Drawings from the Thaw Collection – highlights more than 150 master drawings from the Thaw Collection. Among the exhibited works are also several drawings from Dutch masters like Rembrandt, van Gogh, and Pieter Saenredam. Especially for The Netherland Club, the Dutch curator Ilona van Tuinen will give an exclusive tour of these Dutch Master drawings in the Morgan Library on Wednesday, November 29 at 6 pm.

The Thaw Collection is one of the world’s finest private collections, containing over 400 sheets. Assembled over the last fifty years, and made a promised gift to the Morgan in 1975, the collection has now been given in full to the Morgan Library and Museum by Life Trustee Eugene V. Thaw and his wife, Clare.

The exhibition Drawn to Greatness focuses on pivotal artists and key moments in the history of craftsmanship. Works by major masters from the Renaissance to the modern era are on view, including Mantegna, Canaletto, Piranesi, Watteau, Fragonard, Goya, Ingres, Turner, Daumier, Redon, Degas, Cézanne, Gauguin, Matisse, Picasso, Pollock and Dutch and Flemish masters like Rembrandt, van Gogh, and Rubens.

Ilona van Tuinen (Annette and Oscar De La Renta Assistant Curator) works at the Morgan Library & Museum in New York and is responsible for the Northern European (Netherlandish, Dutch, Flemish, and German) drawings and prints of 1400-1900.

Exclusively for The Netherland Club of NY, Ilona will give a private guided tour of the Thaw Collection exhibition, in which she will pay particular attention to the Dutch drawings in it. She will point out the details that make these works so noteworthy and place the drawings in their historical context.
