Thu, Sep 3 - Thu, Sep 3  2020

On September 3, 2020, Li Edelkoort & Philip Fimmano will present PLANK PAGE, the newest trend presentation by Trend Union & Li Edelkoort. A 90 minutes Zoom session on S/S2022 trends for fashion, colors, and textiles.

For Trend Union’s S/S 2022 forecast, Li Edelkoort has taken paper as a powerful symbol and inspiration. During the Covid-19 lockdown, we all grasped how we had to rethink everything from scratch, remodeling society and reconstructing fashion. The aspects of paper are akin to textiles and guide us to new qualities that are able to breathe and simply be. But this is also a new era when paper will become an innovative fibre for both fashion and design, woven into cloth, knitted into sweaters and padded into felt-like materials. The exciting possibilities will deliver brand new forms of tactility that can be both neat and crisp, or wild and deconstructed.

One can consider the image of an inviting blank page to reset society, the noble brown paper bag to rethink conscious consumption, the perfect cardboard egg box to restructure packaging, and frivolous patisserie papers to restart celebrating life. All unrolling a lighter, more neutral colour palette with several brighter accents. These papers communicate the simple pleasures that will help us overcome our complex societal crisis, with reading, writing and abstract art as our intellectual stimulus, and crafting, weaving and collage as our amateur expressions. Paper holds the power to consider life as a sketch, a doodle or a cut-out and improvisation to keep things light but dynamic – to design our future from a world of hope.
