On March 25, Dutch architect André Hoek will give a lecture at STAIR Galleries
On March 25, the Columbia County Historical Society (CCHS) and Historic Hudson are hosting the second of their collaborative Winter 2018 programming. Dutch restoration architect André Hoek will deliver an illustrated lecture at STAIR Galleries in Hudson, NY, on the preservation of Dutch Architecture.
André Hoek, a Dutch architect specializing in historic preservation, will speak about the techniques and tools developed in the Netherlands to survey, study, restore, protect and maintain historic buildings and gardens. He will discuss whether these methods can apply to historic buildings, especially those of Dutch origin, in the Hudson Valley. Mr Hoek will examine projects large and small, building archaeological methods, sustainability, and non-invasive energy saving solutions. He will also present the complications of restoring a structure that has been changed and adapted for new uses over time, and the difficulty in retaining the “spirit of place” in historic buildings and landscapes.
